Previously belonging to the College of Engineering and Technology, N.C.E. Bengal, Electrical Engineering is one of the oldest departments of Jadavpur University being established in the year 1906. Over the years it has grown into a department of the national repute and importance.
All the time, during the past 40 years, the Department is contributing significantly in the relevant fields through the works of its teachers, research scholars and in the professional fields by the student s passing out .The Department has revamped and replenished it s curriculum and course structure to keep pace with the present day needs of the subjects, associated industries and the country at large; The Department is basically centred around six different sectional laboratories which play the role of nuclei.
In Support of its appreciation, the department was selected by UGC for DSA programme in 1983. The Department also received COSIST funding in 1987 from UGC. Finally, UGC recognised the high quality of research, teaching and industrial collaborations in the form of consultancy, testing and calibration jobs, perused in the Department, by elevating the Department to the status of Centre of Advanced Studies in 1990.
Electrical Engineering Department received recognition for its excellent service to engineering teaching and research when UGC granted DSA funding in 1983. The success of this Department in achieving the goals of DSA lead to sanctioning COSIST grant of UGC to this department in 1987. Considering the successful utilization of funds granted and the significant contribution made in the related field, this department was recognized by UGC and Center for Advanced Studies (CAS) in 1990. Sustained efforts of the department bore further fruits in the year 2000 when DST, GOI provided significant financial support to this department under its FIST program. In 2002, Department received AICTE grant MODROB - Moderization of Illumination Laboratory in E.E. Dept.
