Mandal, currently working as Professor (since 2010) in Department of Pharmaceutical Technology of Jadavpur University, is one of the leading Pharmacognosy researchers in India and world. Prof. Mandal completed all his Pharmacy education, starting from B.Pharm to PhD, from Jadavpur University and is serving the University as a permanent faculty since 1997.
Prof. Mandal has played a pivotal role in globalization of research in Indian traditional medicine with special emphasis to scientific exploration of medicinal plants in rural Bengal for the treatment of lifestyle and metabolic diseases. He has been working in the area of drug discovery from traditional medicine through an integrated holistic approach for more than 15 years which has fetched him prestigious recognitions from different national and international organizations. He has also been recognized with the Distinguished Education and Research Award from prestigious American Association for Indian Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAiPS) at Los Angeles, USA in 2009.
Prof. Mandal played a key role in inclusion of Pharmacognosy as a Post Graduate subject at different Indian Universities and is striving towards bringing all Pharmacognosy researchers worldwide under a single umbrella. Prof. Mandal was also awarded prestigious Endeavour Award from Ministry of Higher Education, Government of Australia, for an advanced level research on obesity and diabetes at University of Canberra, Australia in 2009. Prof. Mandal also holds SAARC award from University Grants Commission, Bangladesh in 2007, 2011 and Talented Scientist award from University of Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2011. He was also on deputation at King s College, London in 2005, under Prof. Peter J Houghton, funded by World Bank, Technical Education Quality Improve Programme of Jadavpur University. Till date he has completed more than eight government funded projects on Indian Traditional Medicines and Drug Discovery.

Prof. Mandal has guided 32 PhD scholars and more than 22 M. Pharm students. The strong research team of Prof. Mandal has explored several new frontiers of combating different diseases with a holistic application of traditional medicine and innovations in botanical extractions which has yielded more than 250 international publications in reputed journals out of which 183 are indexed in Scopus. The total citations as per Scopus database is more than 3300 with an h-index of 34. Prof. Mandal has to his credit 08 patents, 01 authored and edited book each from Elsevier Publications, 01 authored book from Lambert Academic Publishing, 01 edited book from New Central Book Agency and several book chapters. Prof. Mandal is a recognized scientist for different flagship programmes of Department of Science & Technology, New Delhi, and act as host scientist for different visiting scientists of developing countries. Prof. Mandal has visited 24 countries for different academic and research interactions and have delivered more than 60 lectures and serves on external expert panels for different government regulatory bodies/Universities.

Prof. Mandal was deputed as scientist for promoting Indian traditional medicine in Morocco in 2013 by Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi. Recently, Prof. Mandal has engaged with many advanced research work (to be useful for the industry) in developing new innovative, energy efficient extraction methodologies for botanicals which have great export potential. Through his continuous search for effective green alternatives to synthetic medicine, he believes that, someday somehow, somewhere, someone will be able to find out a traditional medicine inspired solution which shall act as a silver bullet for all life threatening diseases.
