The University has recently created a Permanent Cell for the Prevention of Sexual Harassment and Violence on Women on the Campus as recommended by the Supreme Court and the University Grants Commission. The purpose of the Cell is to ensure a friendly environment on campus where students, teachers, staff members, research scholars and offices may feel completely at ease while going about their work. If any student feels it necessary or is a victim of sexual harassment or violence, either physical, verbal or otherwise, he/she should report it, preferably in writing at a box placed at any of the following places: - Office of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts
- Office of the Dean of the Faculty of Science
- Office of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering
- Office of the Dean of Students’ Welfare
Or; One can complain to either the Chairperson of the cell who is the Dean of Students or the Convener - Dr. Nilanjana Gupta, Department of English. All investigations of such complaints are strictly confidential and follow a time bound framework. One need not fear any victimisation. If any one is found guilty of violating the Supreme Court guidelines, that student will be punished.
The Supreme Court has defined Sexual Harassment as: Physical contact or advances Demand or request for sexual favour Sexual by coloured jokes or remarks Display of pornography Any other physical, verbal or non-verbal behaviour with sexual undertones.
